We are a professionally run organisation offering free email and web server chess for players of all standard.

We have been providing free email chess since 1994. Beeing always at the front end of new developments in 2002 we started to offer our server tournaments.

We are in the process of adding new translations to our main documents. As a disclaimer, please note that in case of disputes or disagreements only the English version will be considered. Also, due to obvious problems we cannot absolutely guarantee that the information contained in the translations should be exactly equivalent to the original English. Click here for the

Here you can register for IECG Membership.

WARNING: Registration is a process that first guides you through a "tutorial phase". You won't be added as a regular member until this phase is over. So, please be patient and DO NOT register for any IECG events until you will receive an explicit confirmation of membership, thanks!!!

Before submitting your request please read the IECG Membership Agreement below. Remember that IECG is offering its services cost free, so the only thing we expect from you is fulfilling this agreement.


The International Email Chess Group is administered by volunteers who donate some of their valuable time so that chess lovers from around the world have a free Internet club where they can meet other players and enjoy their favorite pastime. Rules and regulations have been established in order to maintain consistency in playing conditions, to avoid disputes, and to enable the administrators to quickly process a high volume of games.

Therefore, in accepting the IECG membership, I hereby agree:

  • That it is my responsiblity to obtain, read, and understand the official IECG rules which are available on this website:
  • To respect the decisions rendered by the Tournament Secretaries or other IECG officials. If I disagree with a decision, I will follow the proper Appeal procedures and abide by the final ruling.
  • If I must withdraw from a Match or Tournament, I will advise the Tournament Secretary.

iecg 2004 WC

Andreas Strangmüller is the 2004 IECG World Champion. Andreas won his title in tournament WC-2004-F-00001 loosing no game and finally finished the tournament with 10½ points.
